Test of Workplace Essential Skills

TOWES

Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) is Canada's Essential Credential. It is a nationally accepted test that measures workplace essential skills. Supported by 21 Colleges throughout Ontario, it is an effective and afordable way to help you manage your workforce.

Why is TOWES different?

TOWES is different from academic credentials such as a Grade 12 Diploma that measures academic abilities. Grade 12 varies from province to province and a diploma is no guarantee of current workplace essential skills. Conversely, research shows that many people who have not graduated Grade 12 have the essential skills required for many jobs.

TOWES is also different because it uses authentic workplace documents to assess skills. To see an example of a TOWES Test question please click here. TOWES tests for three essential workplace skills:

  • Reading text
  • Document use
  • Numeracy
