Apprenticeship Scholarship

The Apprenticeship Scholarship provides $1000.00 to support individuals who require upgrading to meet the academic eligibility requirements for apprenticeship training in thier chosen trade.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY & PROCESS

Participants must meet the eligibility requirements.

  • Demonstrate an interest in the skilled trades/apprenticeship
  • Be unable to meet the academic eligibility requirements for the trade in which they wish to register as an apprentice.
  • Be committed to meeting the necessary academic requirements for thier chosen apprenticeship program within one year.

What are the upgrading options?

  • Returning to Secondary School
  • Distance Education/Correspondence/Online Courses
  • General Education Diploma (GED)- Grade 12 Equivalency – may be obtained by participating in an Academic Upgrading Program to meet testing standards.

When is the scholarship awarded?

Payment of $500.00 is awarded up front when the individual is registered for upgrading and $500.00 when the individual has successfully completed upgrading, is employed and is registered as an apprentice.

EMPLOYER SIGNING BONUS & INCENTIVES

A $2000 Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus (AESB) is available to ES employers who hire, register and train an apprentice as part of their participation is ES Job Matching, Placement & Incentives (An initial $1000 payment when an individual's apprenticeship training agreement or apprenticeship contracts is signed/registered with the ministry; and A final payment of $1000.00 six months from the apprenticeship signing/registration date if the apprentice is still working and training with the same employer).

To quality for a signing bonus, the employer mus:

  • Meet all the requirements of employers participating in the training incentive placements, as per the ES program guidelines.
  • Commit to a relevant apprenticeship training plan for the participant
