Job Description/Duties

Overall Function

  • To ensure Edgecam programming system is set up and fully utilized.
  • To ensure all jobs are proactively planned, programmed and documented for production so that machine time is maximized, downtime is minimized, and operators clearly understand how to perform their job.

 Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure Edgecam is up to date with a Tool Library which is available to all users (e)
  • Ensure Job Manager is functional and used by all (e)
  • Utilize automated functions in Edgecam to reduce labour in programming and ensure procedures for use are well documented (e)
  • Make sure all Edgecam post processors related to each CNC work station is up to date and producing clean programs. (e)
  • Follow the established planning procedure to ensure each job is correctly planned at least one week before the machining needs to start. (f) (l)
  • Program incoming parts for production ensuring
    • programs are prepared using good principles of efficiency and accuracy (k)
    • programs are available for machinists when CNC work center’s comes open. (h)
    • setups are rigid and as foolproof as is practical given the size of the job and cost of tooling (j)
    • programs are produced in a reasonable period of time – target 2hrs per program, 1hr for planning
  • Make sure complete job set-up notes are prepared for production and are simple and detailed to ensure minimum of down time on production equipment. (i)
  • Work with production foremen to make sure all part programs are saved in the proper place with correct Brotech revision level.(i)
  • Ensure all job travelers match process on shop floor and job times are reasonably accurate. (i)
  • Communicate with sales team when technical information is needed to proceed with a job. (l)
  • Make solid models using Solid Works when customer supplied are not available but are needed (l)
  • Re-evaluate existing jobs based on shop feedback to improve efficiency and to continuously improve production. (i)   
  • Prepare inspection reports in advance of orders hitting production floor.(i)
  • Walk the production floor daily to (b) (i):
    • Get pictures of finished parts, pictures of parts and tools in each process (when it is job that may repeat)
    • Get feedback on programming from production supervisors and operators
    • Download proven programs for storage on the network
  • Keep work area / office neat, free of clutter, and documents in a well organized and transparent system
Requirements/Skills

  • The position requires motivated, proactive, individual who is a self-starter, who can manage his/her own time.
  • Direction will come from the President, Programming and Planning Manager, and Production Foremen

 Required Skills

  • Post secondary education in Engineering.  Exemption will be provided to individuals who are either present employees of the company and have demonstrated required skills or individuals who have specific experience.
  • Advanced English vocabulary and writing skills.
  • Advanced Computer skills including working knowledge of Cad-CAM, MS Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to work both independently and within a group.
  • Has initiative and demonstrates proactive problem solving skills.
  • Quick study.
  • Knowledge of company services
  • Knowledge of customer applications

Required Training

  • Company policies and procedures, including ISO, AS9100 and Health & Safety
  • Production management techniques
  • Ongoing knowledge maintenance

Working Conditions

High proportion of time spent on shop floor.

Smoke free office environment.
